Newcastle are not toying with the edge defence of the Dolphins. Another try – this time scored by Dane Gagai – came after the defensive line of the visitors became incredibly disjointed. Jake Averillo – who is defending in the centre – is really struggling. Knights lead 20-0 after 30 minutes

Best overpowers Dolphins
It’s looking a bit too easy for the Knights right now. After scoring two tries on their right edge, they now have one on their left – courtesy of Bradman Best. He was too big and too strong for his direct opponents. If the Dolphins aren’t the next team to score they are as good as gone. And we’re only 23 minutes into the first half. Knights lead 14-0 after 23 minutes

Ponga orchestrates Schiller’s second try
The Knights are rolling. Barely a minute after the Hammer try was ruled out due to obstruction, another sweeping play to the right resulted in James Schiller scoring his second of the night. Pretty simple stuff, to be honest. Knights lead 10-0 after 15 minutes
Dolphins denied try by blocking play
It’s been a rough start for Felise Kaufusi. Firstly, there was his incorrect play the ball. Now, he stood in the ruck and become enough of an obstacle that Tabuai-Fidow’s try was ruled out pretty quickly once a video review was conducted.
Knights open the scoring
James Schiller is the lucky recipient of some clever play from Kalyn Ponga (dragging defenders around and creating room on the outside) and Kai Peace-Paul (great, quick pass) and the Knights are the first to score. They haven’t been perfect so far, but they got everything right on this play. Knights lead 6-0 after 12 minutes
Lucky break for Dolphins as errors mount
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow put in an average attempt to tap a kick over the dead ball line, only to have Knights forward Tyson Frizell knock it on while attempting to score a try. No harm done in the end and for the Dolphins a 20m tap rather than a goal-line dropout. Neither side will be happy with their error-prone starts. 0-0 after eight minutes
